Many women, who gave birth, know that along with joy of motherhood, they often get unpleasant surprises, like hemorrhoids. This often happens due to the prolonged labor and increased pressure on the anus.
Plexus Biomedical Inc.. received FDA approval of the first device that prevents external hemorroids during vaginal childbirth. The
Hem-Avert Perianal Stabilizer was developed by
David Blurton, the company's CEO, who decided to create a gadget that could help women during childbirth after he faced his wife's problem.
The Hem-Avert Perianal Stabilizer is made of medical grade polycarbonate with a cushion pad in the center of the device, which is placed inside with the help of lateral hook and loop fasteners attached to adhesive tape.
The Hem-Avert device is applied externally and non-invasively,
supporting the perianal region during labor and delivery. This tool is recommended to use only during vaginal deliveries. During the clinical trials the novel device
helped all women avoid hemorrhoids, when compared to 25 percent of women in the control group that had hemorrhoids during
vaginal delivery.

Babies that are born prematurely are at increased risk of various health problems that can have devastating consequences.
One of the most important things for a newborn
baby is to make sure that the baby is kept warm enough, because the body temperature regulation is not fully developed in low birth and premature babies. In many hospitals you can find special incubators for this purpose. But not all people in the world have such an easy access to incubators.
Jane Chen, Linus Liang, Dr. Rahul Panicker, and
Naganand Murty, former students of the
Stanford University came up with the idea of developing a baby wrap called
Embrace Infant Warmer that can save lives of millions of children.
The baby wrap looks like a small sleeping bag that helps keep babies' temperature warm and increase chances of survival in difficult circumstances. It is
reusable, hypoallergenic wrap that has a sealed pouch that is heated with electric or non-electric unit and placed into the sleeping bag warmer. All that is needed is to heat the pouch and it will keep the necessary temperature for up to four hours. The material of the wrap
absorbs extra heat, if the baby gets too hot or release heat if the baby gets too cold.
The concept itself is in the final stages of development and soon will be available in the developing countries.

Parents, expecting their first child, often want to know every detail of their baby's growth. The developers of the
PreVue eTextile Device wanted to give parents the possibility to
get familiar with baby's growth when it is still in the womb.
The PreVue created by
Melody Shiue, an industrial designer of the
University of New South Wales, that looks like a
pregnancy belt, features a
electronic textile screen with a specially designed ultrasonic layer that shows the image of the baby, baby's movements, kicks and smiles during its fetal development.
This innovative gadget concept was created to help parents bond with their child, making both parents, especially fathers see what's going on with their child even before it is born.
While this great device is not available yet, the idea of developing a device that makes "fetal visualization" so easy is incredible and quite difficult to implement.
