Do dairy products increase mucus production?

Previously it was believed that milk and dairy products may contribute to increased mucus production, and as a result to clogged nose and cough. However, the review of several studies in 2005 showed that dairy products and milk were not linked to mucus production or other symptoms of cold and flu.

That's why you do not need to avoid milk in your diet or your child's nutrition during colds or flu. One study even showed that milk can loosen cough.
