Tea with Lemon and Sugar
Many people know about the benefits of drinking green tea and they could increase the benefits of this drink adding lemon and sugar. According to the recent study conducted at Purdue University, tea contains catehins, beneficial compounds, which are better absorbed if you add ascorbic acid and sugar to it. Catehins in tea are known as antioxidants that can protect you from a number of health problems such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. So if you really want to get all the best from green tea, squeeze fresh lemon and add some sugar to it.
Orange Juice and Oatmeal
If you prefer to have oatmeal for breakfast, do not forget to drink orange juice to enjoy along with oatmeal. The research from the Antioxidants Research Lab at the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that adding orange juice that is high in vitamin C to oatmeal will help you prevent heart attack and keep your arteries healthy. This is because both oatmeal and orange juice contain phenols that control bad cholesterol level. When eaten together, these foods are two times more effective at protecting you from these health problems than if you were having them separately.
Meat and Spices
In spite of the fact that some studies suggested that eating meat is associated with cancer, scientists seem to find the way to lower this risk to a minimum. You simply need to marinate meat in spices, such as rosemary or thyme. Natural spices, like rosemary, are rich in antioxidants, which inhibit the formation of heterocyclic amines, known as cancirogens that are linked to different types of cancer, by more than 70 percent.
Carrots and Olive Oil
Eating vegetable salad with some fat will do more good than bad for your health. This is explained by the fact that many essential nutrients such as beta-carotene and lycopene found in fresh vegetables are better absorbed, when eaten with fat. Colorful vegetables, such as tomatoes that are rich in lycopene and carrots that are rich in beta-carotene are absorbed much better if you add good fats from olive oil or avocado.
Apples and Grapes
Apples and grapes make a great combination for your heart. Both fruits are rich in flavonoids, which contribute to better cardiovascular health. Apples contain quercetin, a natural antioxidant that has a number of benefits, cutting the risk of heart disease and cancer. Grapes are known to contain catehins, another type of flavonoids that are good for your health. Together they prevent your arteries from clogging, lowering bad cholesterol level and preventing heart diseases.
Peanut Butter and Bread
Peanuts and bread is a good match because they compliment each other. Sandwich with peanut butter is not only tasty, but has a great nutritional power. This is due to the fact that adding peanuts to wheat bread ensures your body with the right amount of amino acids, necessary for producing proteins, which is important for your immune system and muscle development.
Spinach and Tomatoes
If you are vegetarian or have anemia, then you may need to increase your iron level. Many plant foods such as spinach are rich in iron. However, iron in spinach is not readily absorbed if compared to iron in meat. The best solution here is to combine spinach with foods rich in vitamin C, such as tomatoes or Brussels sprouts. Adding tomatoes to spinach salad will boost the amount of iron your body absorbs.
